A new study, born out of a UR CTSI Incubator project, challenges old views by suggesting the gut microbiome is a key culprit behind osteoarthritis in people who are obese; not excess mechanical wear and tear on joints. Remarkably, a common prebiotic supplement altered the obese microbiome and protected against osteoarthritis.

Nicole O’Dell recently replaced Thomas Fogg as the UR CTSI’s director of research education. O’Dell will provide support for our many educational and training opportunities and hopes to unify them into a clear pipeline to becoming an independent researcher.
