Cardiac Rehabilitation
Make Appointments & Get Care
What is Cardiac Rehabilitation?
Cardiac rehabilitation helps you recover from a cardiac event. It includes exercise and dietary education and support—all medically supervised.
We customize rehabilitation, including an exercise program designed specifically for you.
Our program helps you achieve and maintain an active, independent lifestyle so you can resume regular activities with confidence. Just as important, it reduces your risk of future cardiac events.
UR Medicine's Approach
Cardiac rehab works in two phases:
Phase I begins in the hospital after a cardiac event such as:
• Heart attack
• Angioplasty/stent
• Coronary bypass surgery
• Valve replacement/repair surgery
• Stable angina
• Heart Failure (insurance criteria apply)
• Heart transplant
Phase II begins when you leave the hospital. It may include up to 36 visits, usually two to three sessions per week (depending on your goals, fitness level, and stage of your heart disease.
You will receive education and counseling on living healthier. You will also begin an individualized exercise program, closely monitored by our health professionals.
Most insurance plans cover Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation. Patients are generally responsible for a co-pay, co-insurance, or deductibles.
