Why Geriatrics?

Unfortunately, all of my grandparents passed away by the time I turned 6 and I think it is such a privilege to work with and learn from older adults! I love how patient-centered this specialty is and the connections we are able to form with our patients. I’m passionate about the medical humanities and I feel that Geriatrics not only embraces them but also seamlessly incorporates them into the care we provide our patients.

Why Rochester?

I initially came to Rochester for residency but fell in love with the Geriatrics program and couldn’t see myself completing my fellowship anywhere else! Rochester has such a strong Geriatrics presence and the faculty within our program have been amazing mentors.

Professional Interests?

My professional interests include the medical humanities, especially narrative medicine, longitudinal patient care in an ILF/ALF setting, and preventative medicine.

Where do you see yourself practicing?

After fellowship I envision myself staying in the Rochester area and working in a combination ILF and ALF setting.

What do you hope to learn or accomplish during fellowship?

I am excited to explore and gain a better understanding of the numerous areas within healthcare impacted by Geriatrics. I’m also looking forward to learning how to care for older adults and being able to learn from them as well!

Other interests?

Burn bootcamp classes, Buffalo Bills and Sabres games, cooking and baking.

Why Geriatrics?

I have been drawn to caring for older adults for most of my medical training. I was very close with my grandparents growing up and was able to help care for my grandmother with Alzheimer’s Dementia and want to continue to be part of the world of older adults in my career. I love the whole-person approach to geriatric medicine and value prioritizing family units and stories as an integral part of creating a medical care plan.

Why Rochester?

My husband and I trained in the Southeast prior to fellowship but are both originally from the Northeast and wanted to return closer to home, while exploring a new city. Rochester seemed like the perfect mix of an exciting city with lots to do while being small enough to form community quickly.

Professional Interests?

There is a new part of geriatric medicine that I am excited about every day! But I am most interested in home care medicine and primary care.

Where do you see yourself practicing?

I am interested in pursuing a career that incorporates an element of home care and open to exploring new aspects of geriatrics throughout this year! Geriatrics is an amazing field because there are so many arenas in which geriatricians can have an important impact.

What do you hope to learn or accomplish during fellowship?

I hope to learn from the expertise of the geriatricians and patients in the Rochester community – I am looking forward to being a part of the Monroe Community Hospital world and seeing more of rehab medicine. I also hope to take my medical training and reshape it through a lens of geriatric syndromes and approaches.

Other interests?

I love crossword puzzles and running! I am excited to learn how to garden in Western New York and am planning out my vegetable garden now!
