Large-scale Assessments of Spoken Language Comprehension in Adolescents with ASD
Project Collaborator:
Abnormal production and comprehension of prosody, and resulting social and communicative difficulties, are well-recognized characteristics associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In the current study, we aim to collect data from a large group of participants on their abilities to comprehend grammatical functions of prosody (e.g., separating a question from a statement). In particular, we investigate whether, and if so how, adolescents with and without ASD cope with variability in the prosodic input arising from differences across speakers (e.g., age, gender, accent) and contexts (e.g., casual vs. formal speech). This will be examined through a large-scale study using an internet (“web”)-based testing paradigm.
