Dr. Pietri Honored to be EIOH Trained Orthodontist
Dr. Francesca Pietri (Ortho ’21) began her EIOH residency program two weeks after graduating from dental school at Nova Southeastern University. During her first year of residency, her research project about the role of probiotics in oral health maintenance was accepted for publication, and the next year she won second place at the Northeastern Society of Orthodontics Cup Award competition. The knowledge that she attained while at EIOH, she says, will last a lifetime!
Where are you from?
Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela! However, sunny South Florida is home now!
Why did you choose EIOH?
To learn technical knowledge, clinical expertise, and foster trusting pedagogic relationships. I wanted to join an interdisciplinary team that provides top quality care in the variety of disciplines necessary to evaluate, diagnose and comprehensively treat patient needs.​
Any thoughts about your residency occurring during the historical Covid pandemic?
The COVD-19 pandemic was surely a difficult time for us all, however, the orthodontic department wanted to ensure the safety of residents, staff and patients so only emergency patients where seen. Since clinical time was limited, we assumed an intensely comprehensive didactic schedule! We had a very productive months of learning over Zoom!
Best memory?
I was very happy and proud when my co-resident Taylor Squires and I took the NESO Cup Award at the Northeastern Society of Orthodontics Conference. Eastman took home all awards at that conference! Also, attending the Tweed course in Tucson, Arizona and finding out that I passed my ABO boards!
Favorite/Least Favorite thing about Rochester?
My favorite thing about Rochester is the amazing people that I have met while here! I also enjoyed exploring nature, going on hikes, camping, fishing and taking mini trips around the Finger Lakes! Least favorite: Not being able to cross the Canadian border due to COVID-19 restrictions!
Did the EIOH experience make a better you?
Eastman Institute for Oral Health Department of Orthodontics emphasizes community, leadership, scientific inquiry, and the advancement of the orthodontic profession. These reasons, combined with my profound interest in orthodontics, prepared me well to begin my professional career in Orthodontics.
What are your plans/next steps upon graduation?
In June I plan on returning to sunny South Florida and joining a private practice as an associate. While there, I plan on putting into practice everything I have learned thus far and also further enhancing my clinical skills, as well as learning the business end of practice management. My long-term goal is to open my own office(s) someday! But for now, I look forward to these last few days in residency. Needless to say, I am living my dream and excited to finally become an Orthodontist!
What will you miss the most?
I will most certainly miss the friends I have made while here! :)

I would like to say thank you to all the faculty, staff and my co-residents for an amazing two years at Eastman! I feel incredibly grateful to have fulfilled my lifelong dream of becoming an orthodontist and honored to graduate from such an esteemed and reputable program.
