Dr. Mahshid (Prostho ’24) grew up in Shiraz, Iran and attended dental school in Tehran. After graduating, she and her family immigrated to Canada in 2015, where she graduated dental school at the University of Toronto in 2020.

Q: Why did you choose Eastman?
A: I selected Eastman for my residency due to its prestigious reputation in education and the chance to be mentored by top experts in the field of prosthodontics.

Q: Best memory of your EIOH residency?
A: Sharing moments of laughter and joy with my co-residents in the lab.

Q: In what way did your Eastman experience allow you to grow?
A: The professional support and guidance from my faculties along with the help from my co-residents and our friendly staff helped me to grow both as a clinician and a person during the last three years. Eastman Dental felt like a family for the last three years. I have developed life-long friendships and relationships, which I am very grateful for.

Q: Next steps after graduation?
A: I will start the Implant Fellowship program at Eastman Institute in July 2024. I'm super excited for this new journey!

The idea of pursuing the implant fellowship after my residency was something I had considered from the beginning. While I was eager to dive deeper into prosthodontics, I also wanted to gain more experience in the surgical aspects of dentistry, as well as the art of aesthetic and prosthetic rehabilitation. During my Eastman training, the collaboration between the prosthodontics and periodontology departments underscored the importance of integrating prosthetic options with surgical considerations. The Implant fellowship, alongside prosthodontics training, will equip me with the expertise needed to effectively address the diverse needs of patients.

Q: What is your motto?
A: My motto is, you only live once, so live life to the fullest, cherish your family, make unforgettable memories with your friends, and keep growing every day.

Q: A person who has inspired you?
A: My parents have always been my inspiration. Without them I wouldn't be here.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I really enjoy traveling and trying out different foods from various countries. It is a great way for me to experience different cultures and indulge in delicious cuisines. I also love going out with my friends, whether it's trying new restaurants or exploring different places together.

Q: One thing you can't live without?
A: Passion, love, and of course, food!

Q: If you could eat only one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: Thai food 😋 most probably Papaya salad

Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: I have a knack for both falling asleep within the first 10 minutes of a movie or asking too many questions during it! So, watching movies with me can be quite an adventure. 🙃

Q: If you could give advice to a new resident coming to Eastman, what would you say?
A: Embrace every learning opportunity, build strong relationships with peers and mentors, and maintain a good work-life balance. Also, stay curious, ask lots of questions, and enjoy the journey of growth and discovery during your residency.
