A $1.5 million commitment from the Ganatra family will create the Tansukh, Sarla and Rajesh Ganatra Professorship in . The commitment is part of the family’s long-time support of Pediatric Cardiology at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ (URMC).

“Professorships are the building blocks of a great university,” said Joel Seligman, president of the University of Rochester. “We are deeply grateful to the Ganatra family for their contribution to the future health of children born with life-threatening conditions. In a few months, we’ll be opening a new Golisano Children’s Hospital and fervent supporters like the Ganatras are ensuring we will have the very best doctors caring for our patients.”

Tansukh, Sarla, and Rajesh Ganatra made the commitment to fund an endowed professorship in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery out of gratitude to the Â鶹ÊÓƵdoctors who have assisted numerous family members and also their dear friends. Funding from the professorship may be used to support the holder’s salary, benefits, research, or programmatic needs.

“The doctors at Strong Memorial Hospital (now Golisano Children’s Hospital) were there as our friends, our allies and our advisors,” Tansukh Ganatra said. “Whenever we needed help, they were there.”

“We’re grateful for the Ganatra family’s vision and their commitment, which helps to ensure the longevity and strength of the pediatric cardiac surgery program,” said Mark B. Taubman, CEO of Â鶹ÊÓƵand UR Medicine and dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry. “Having this world-class program in Rochester means that upstate families don’t have to travel far—or leave their support systems behind —to get the care their children need.”

Their inspiring future generosity will have an important impact on cardiovascular research—that will benefit people everywhere—being conducted here at Rochester.”

“We may not be around to benefit from the research and work done today, but if it helps future generations, why not support it?” said Tansukh Ganatra, who believes the best kind of happiness comes from helping others. “When you leave this world, you don’t take anything with you. While we are alive, we want to share with others and continue to help.”
