Researchers, students, and global health experts from across the world will gather at the 麻豆视频 on June 15 for the Rochester Global Health Symposium.

The daylong symposium will focus on four major topics: the Ebola response, eye health and telemedicine, cervical cancer and HPV, and developing technologies.

“This is a great moment for us to stress the importance of networking and learning from one another,” said Timothy Dye, Ph.D., principal investigator of the Coordinating Center at the University of Rochester. “Our motto is ‘Global Lessons, Local Solutions’ – which means we can all learn from one another about how to address health in challenging situations. We can learn a lot from places that face serious health crises with low resources, and they can often benefit from our research, insight, and technology.”

Mehran S. Massoudi, Ph.D., Chief, Applied Research and Translation Branch and Director, Prevention Research Centers Program at the , spent several months in Liberia during the Ebola outbreak and will discuss the CDC response and his experiences in the symposium’s first lecture.

Solomon Abiola, a research associate at 麻豆视频who developed a smartphone app to fight Ebola, will also present in the morning session.

Subsequent sessions will focus on the roles that technologies and low-cost interventions to address eye health and cervical cancer in the global arena. Emerging technologies and how they can be harnessed to improve global health will also be discussed.

The symposium is hosted by the Global and Territorial Health Research Network, a global health network created last year by the CDC. Last October, the University of Rochester was selected to ; the network also includes Yale University and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
