Wakenda Tyler, M.D.

Two new orthopaedic surgeons are joining the 麻豆视频鈥檚 helping to fill the growing patient volume in sports medicine and adult reconstruction specialties.

Gregg T. Nicandri, M.D., a sports medicine physician specializing in shoulder, elbow and knee disorders, joins as an assistant professor of Orthopaedics in mid-August.聽Wakenda Tyler, M.D., who specializes in bone oncology and adult reconstruction, also joins as an assistant professor of Orthopaedics, and begins work September 1. Both recruits bolster the Medical Center鈥檚 and .

Gregg T. Nicandri, M.D.

As one of the busiest musculoskeletal services in the United States, the Department of Orthopaedics provides subspecialty care in all areas of musculoskeletal disease, and manages approximately 160,000 patient visits per year.聽With the addition of Nicandri and Tyler, the Department of Orthopaedics now has 40 faculty on its roster.

Nicandri will work out of two divisions in the Departments of Orthopaedics, University Sports Medicine and the Division of Shoulder and Elbow, where he will offer treatments ranging from arthroscopy to total shoulder and elbow reconstruction. A Rochester native, Nicandri earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and completed his residency at the University of Washington. He followed this training with a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at Duke University, where he also served as Assistant Team Physician for the Blue Devil Football and Basketball teams. 聽Nicandri is board-eligible in Orthopaedic Surgery and is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Academy of Sports Medicine. He also is a participant in the American Orthopaedic Association鈥檚 Emerging Leader鈥檚 program. His research interests include patient safety, satisfaction and education.

Tyler also will work in two Orthopaedic divisions:聽Orthopaedic Oncology and Adult Reconstruction, where she will specialize in orthopaedic oncology, bone and soft tissue tumors and total joint replacement. 聽She earned her medical degree and Masters in Public Health from the John Hopkins University School of Medicine and trained at the Hospital for Special Surgery. She completed a fellowship in Orthopaedic Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Tyler is board-eligible in Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a candidate member of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MTS).
