2020-12-14 COVID vaccination

Subject to availability of vaccine, later this week UR Medicine plans to begin vaccinating patients in “Group 1B,” which includes people 75 years of age and older. Today, the Governor added individuals who are 65 or older and those who qualify as immunocompromised under . Patients from all of these groups will be eligible to receive vaccinations at a downtown clinic beginning Friday, and early next week we will open up a second vaccination clinic on the Medical Center campus.

UR Medicine will contact each eligible patient by telephone, email or MyChart when they are able to schedule a vaccination, based on a randomized selection process. Providers and appointment schedulers are not able to say when individual patients can be vaccinated, so calling our offices will not help to speed the process. Over time, as availability of vaccine allows, we will offer vaccination to all UR Medicine patients.

Vaccine supplies are limited, as Governor Cuomo has said, and it will take time to vaccinate all of the people in the identified groups. We appreciate the public’s understanding as we work with public health officials, community partners, and the Finger Lakes Vaccine Hub to vaccinate everyone who is eligible as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, we ask everyone to take the simple steps that will keep our community safe: Wash your hands, maintain physical distance and wear a mask when you are around people from outside your household.
