Dr. Schriefer is the Director of Collaborative Partnerships for Quality and Safety at the UR Medicine Golisano Children's Hospital. Dr. Schriefer has been an integral member of our department quality team since her arrival in 2006. Dr. Schriefer works with our pediatric surgical colleagues to help...
Dr. Schriefer is the Director of Collaborative Partnerships for Quality and Safety at the UR Medicine Golisano Children's Hospital. Dr. Schriefer has been an integral member of our department quality team since her arrival in 2006. Dr. Schriefer works with our pediatric surgical colleagues to help reduce surgical complications. She is the coach for the Pediatric Surgery Pursuing Excellence Initiative team that is expanding resident involvement in quality and safety. Dr. Schriefer coaches Unit Based Performance Program (UPP) teams. She is the on the Â鶹ÊÓƵteam that approves and oversees Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part IV projects and the Department Divisional QI projects. She is a Tutor in the Mastering Medical Information course for 1st year Medical Students in the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She teaches QI to resident, fellows and attendings in various courses throughout the year. Dr. Schriefer is the Leader of the Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) Safety Disparities Leadership Foundations. Dr. Schriefer has been a faculty member and a Quality Leader for the Vermont Oxford Network (VON) Quality Improvement collaborative since 2002. Dr. Schriefer is Faculty at Vermont Oxford Network and has been instrumental in VON's Quality Improvement efforts internationally. Dr. Schriefer started serving as the Quality Assurance Liaison (QAL) for the Department of Pediatrics in 2014. As QAL, Dr. Schriefer oversaw quality assurance efforts, helping to facilitate case reviews, serve on Root Cause Analysis teams, manages the event reporting system and better connects QA and QI efforts. Dr. Schriefer has won numerous regional and national quality awards including the The USA Today / Rochester Institute of Technology Quality Cup for the UVM Early Extubation project, The Mosby Patient Safety and Quality Award, the Â鶹ÊÓƵBoard Quality Award, the Health Care Association of New York State Pinnacle Award for Patient Safety, the American College of Surgeons National Surgical QI Program Abstract Award, the Greater Rochester Quality Council Performance Award, the Â鶹ÊÓƵTeam Based Care Summit Award, the Â鶹ÊÓƵOperations Excellence Lean Award and Quality and the Get Well Network Clinical Quality Innovation Award. She has a long list of peer reviewed publications and has presented at many national quality meetings. Dr. Schriefer was nominated for the Â鶹ÊÓƵSenior Leadership Education and Development (SLED) Program. The SLED Program brings together Associate Professor level Medical School faculty through evidenced-based, collaborative learning to develop transformational academic leaders. The goals of the program are to lead by developing others, set direction and vision, develop organizational efficiencies and implement strategic plans. Dr. Schriefer was in Cohort I of the Â鶹ÊÓƵValor Performance Excellence program.

Dr. Schriefer participates in quality improvement research studies in the following areas: care of children with respiratory illness, reduction of hospital acquired infections using quality improvement bundles, the use of simulation based team training to improve teamwork and communication between providers, the use of severity scoring tools for hospitalized patients with asthma, the use of a learning collaborative for improving quality in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) through Vermont Oxford Network Leadership roles and in Children's Hospitals Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) Foundations Leadership roles in Safety Disparities. Dr. Schriefer mentors students in the Strong Children's Research Center and in RES 995 School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD) QI Research Electives. Dr. Schriefer's research colleagues include Jeffrey Horbar MD from Vermont Oxford Network (VON), James Gray MD from Dartmouth Medical School and Louis Halamek MD from Stanford University and the Center for Advanced Pediatric Education (CAPE). Dr. Schriefer collaborated with researchers and grant evaluators from John Snow Incorporated and Stephen Cook MD MPH. She has worked on a HRSA grant in the area of epilepsy care for children as part of a Maternal Child Health Grant. Dr. Schriefer collaborated with Rita Dadiz DO on a HRSA funded grant to study teamwork and communication in the delivery room simulation lab and the surgical delivery rooms at URMC. Dr. Schriefer was involved in a Community Partnership research grant with Julie Christiansen MSW PhD at EquiCenter in Mendon NY studying the impact of leisure activities for children with special health care needs. Dr. Schriefer is a Â鶹ÊÓƵQuality Institute Associate Scholar.
