Marjorie Hodges Shaw, JD, PhD, MA, HEC-C, is an Associate Professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and the Director of Clinical Bioethics at Strong Memorial Hospital. Marjorie Hodges Shaw, JD, PhD, MA, HEC-C, is an Associate Professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and the Director of Clinical Bioethics at Strong Memorial Hospital. In this role, she teaches and conducts research at the intersection of law, health care, medical decision-making, and bioethics. Dr. Shaw also serves as Chair of the Strong Memorial Hospital Ethics Committee.

Her current research focuses on clinical ethics consultation, the integration of law and ethics in clinical education, and applied ethical decision-making in health care.

Before joining the University of Rochester, Dr. Shaw served as Judicial Administrator at Cornell University. She also co-founded and directed the Cornell University Computer Policy and Law Program, now known as the Cornell University Institute for Internet Culture, Policy, and Law.

Dr. Shaw earned her undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University in 1987, where she was inducted into the Golden Chain Senior Honor Society. She received her J.D. from Cornell University Law School (1991), her M.A. in Philosophy (2004), and her Ph.D. in Education (2011), both from the University of Rochester. She completed a Clinical Ethics Fellowship at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2012 and earned her Healthcare Ethics Certification from ASBH in 2018.
