A native of Syracuse, NY, Dr. Breazzano has experience as a high-volume retina surgeon in private practice, and also served as full-time faculty at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute. Throughout his career, he has been extensively involved in both research and clinical trials, as well as teaching and mentoring medical students, ophthalmology residents, and retina fellows.
Dr. Breazzano graduated cum laude from Hamilton College and magna cum laude from SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he received several scholarships and was elected into Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society. After an internship at Yale University, he completed his ophthalmology residency at Vanderbilt University, where he won the national First Place Resident Writer’s Award given by Ophthalmology Times as well as Vanderbilt’s inaugural Lefkovitz Discovery Award. After finishing his residency, he completed his retinal surgery fellowship at Columbia University where he was recognized for the Best Clinical Research Paper.
Dr. Breazzano holds a patent and has published over 100 peer-reviewed research articles, book chapters, and abstracts in retina and ophthalmology. He is frequently invited to speak to national and international audiences of ophthalmologists and retina specialists. His research has demonstrated ophthalmology-specific occupational infection risk and evaluated retinal screening practices for fungal bloodstream infections.
Dr. Breazzano is a member of the Retina Society, American Society of Retina Specialists, American College of Surgeons, and American
Academy of Ophthalmology. He serves on the editorial advisory board for Ophthalmology Times and is a peer reviewer for multiple journals. He is also sought by medical and mainstream press for his expert opinions related to ophthalmology and general medical care.
When he is not caring for patients, Dr. Breazzano enjoys the outdoors, travel, and spending time with his family.
