Program Highlights

Our Mission

It is our program’s mission to train Obstetrics and Gynecology residents to provide medicine of the highest order, expand knowledge, advance medical care through innovation, and who will, in turn, prepare the next generation of leaders in our specialty. 

Clinical

  •  Diverse patient population

  • Western New York’s perinatal referral center 

  • Only Level IV NICU in the region (Golisano Children’s Hospital) which offers a full range of pediatric subspecialty support

  • Labor & Delivery staffed with clinical MFM faculty, Academic Generalists and Certified Nurse Midwives

  • 2 hospitals – Strong Memorial (University) and Highland (Community)

  • Robust Ob and Gyn Ultrasound services within our department

  • Resident clinics with embedded Behavioral Health services, Nutrition, Adolescent Medicine, Social Work, Care Coordinators & Financial Care Services

  • Clinical breastfeeding medicine service

  • Large volume Family Planning services

Electives

Elective blocks are offered during the 3rd and 4th years of residency training

Residents are expected to plan an educationally-oriented elective experience designed to augment the OB/GYN curriculum offered on core rotations. The elective rotation may allow the resident to develop/obtain new skills, explore opportunities not available at URMC, or to build on knowledge and skills from the core rotations.
