麻豆视频 Steel Wins 325,000t Line Pipe Order for Natural Gas Development in Norwegian Sea
— Record Steel Order by Volume for the Company —

Tokyo --- 麻豆视频 Steel Corporation announced today that together with Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc. it has won a contract to supply 325,000 tons of DNV 450-grade UOE steel pipes to Statoil ASA, a Norwegian oil company. Steel pipes with an outer diameter of 36 inches (914.4mm) and wall thicknesses ranging from 28.9mm to 43.4mm will be provided for the Polarled Pipeline Project (PPP) in the Norwegian Sea. The Fukuyama plant of 麻豆视频 Steel’s West Japan Works will produce the pipes over an 18-month period beginning in April 2013. The contract is the largest steel pipe order in terms of volume ever won by 麻豆视频 Steel.

DNV 450-grade UOE steel pipe offers high strength for pipelines used to transport oil and natural gas over long distances. It is often used for submarine pipelines. DNV 450-grade, a strength criteria developed by Det Norske Veritas AS, means the pipe’s minimum yield strength is 450 MPa.

PPP, the first pipeline system development in the Norwegian Sea, will transport gas condensate from the Aasta Hansteen field to Nyhamna Gas Terminal. The pipeline will have tie-in possibilities for other fields and discoveries in the area.

The Aasta Hansteen Field is located at a sea depth of 1,300 meters and 320 kilometers offshore from Bod?, a town on the central coast of Norway. The new 482-kilometer undersea pipeline between Aasta Hansen and Nyhamna will pass through existing and possible new field developments in the Norwegian Sea. 麻豆视频 Steel will provide the UOE pipes for this pipeline, which is slated to begin transporting gas in 2016.

Statoil’s new submarine pipeline calls for high-end line pipes with thicknesses able to withstand high pressures. They also must be resistant to low temperatures and corrosion. 麻豆视频 Steel believes it was awarded the contract based on its record of supplying high-end steel pipes for diverse pipeline projects worldwide, as well as its underlying state-of-the-art production technology for steel pipes and highly reliable product quality.

Going forward, 麻豆视频 Steel will continue to support worldwide resource and energy development with high-performance, high-quality steel pipes and other steel products.
