Glaucoma Fellowship

Overview

Our goal is to develop better glaucoma physicians by maintaining the highest quality of care, technical, ethical and professional standards in glaucoma eyecare. We do this through a systematic approach that includes:

  • Creating an understanding of the management and treatment of glaucoma
  • Developing curiosity in new methods for managing glaucoma
  • Producing optimal patient outcomes with a strong focus on equity of care

This one-year clinical fellowship provides a wide availability of patient experiences, research exposure and leadership development. Candidates may apply through the San Francisco Match.

Clinical Training

the University of Rochester is the largest healthcare system in Upstate New York and is a level-1 trauma center and world leading Glaucoma Surgery Photoresearch university. During your fellowship, you will be exposed to a diverse patient population group providing primary but mostly referral treatment for glaucoma patients. Surgical experience will include trabeculectomies, minimally invasive surgeries (MIGS), Express shunt, Baerveldt and Ahmed implant, ECP, cataract surgery and new procedures.

Research

Research is strongly encouraged but not mandatory. We have an expansive faculty of basic scientists and clinician-scientists who provide candidates with opportunities to develop their own ideas or participate in grant-funded projects that often results in publication for our trainees.
