Patient Care

Â鶹ÊÓƵResponse to CrowdStrike Issue

Jul. 19, 2024

Critical businesses and services are being disrupted by a global tech issue affecting Microsoft users. Some patient care sites and Â鶹ÊÓƵoffices have been affected. Emergency and inpatient care are continuing without interruption.

All Â鶹ÊÓƵupdates for patients will be shared on this page.

Update: 4:00 p.m. Monday

As of 4:00 p.m. today, all UR Medicine facilities are open as scheduled and providing safe patient care. Almost all Â鶹ÊÓƵcomputers that directly support care are back online, enabling our clinical teams to serve patients at normal efficiency.

Our IT teams will continue working through the week to restore computers that support administrative functions, but we do not plan additional public updates because impacts that directly affected patients have been addressed. We’ve greatly appreciated our patients’ understanding as we worked to restore full clinical services as quickly as possible.

Update: 9:00 a.m. Saturday

As of 9:00 a.m. Saturday, all UR Medicine facilities are open as scheduled and providing safe patient care. A large majority of all Â鶹ÊÓƵcomputers affected by yesterday’s CrowdStrike software issue are back online. Some clinical service areas have returned to fully normal operations, but some computers remain down in others, which makes it difficult for staff to work at full efficiency. Our IT teams will continue working through the day to bring more computers online, with a goal of returning all clinical services to full efficiency by early next week.

We appreciate our patients’ understanding as we work to restore full clinical services as quickly as possible. We will post any additional updates on MyChart, UR Medicine social media accounts, and the Â鶹ÊÓƵNewsroom page on Monday.

Update: 4:00 p.m. Friday

As of 4:00 p.m., all patient care facilities in Monroe County are open, including pharmacies and all but two lab patient service centers. However, some computers remain down in many areas, which makes it difficult for staff to work as efficiently as usual. Facilities that are usually open on Saturdays will maintain their weekend schedules; patients whose weekend appointments need to be rescheduled will be contacted.

Our IT teams will continue working through the weekend to bring more computers online, with a goal of returning clinical operations to full efficiency as quickly as possible. As noted below, nearly all elective surgical procedures scheduled for today are taking place, with schedule delays at most locations.

We appreciate our patients’ understanding as we work to restore full operations as quickly as possible. We will post any additional updates on MyChart, UR Medicine social media accounts, and the Â鶹ÊÓƵNewsroom page over the weekend.

Update: 11:45 a.m. Friday

Our electronic medical record system has not been affected; emergency and inpatient care at Strong Memorial Hospital are continuing without interruption, and MyChart is also available for patient communication. However, multiple computers that support clinical functions are down, and our IT team is working urgently to reinstate all impacted systems with a focus on maintaining patient care.

As of 11:45 a.m., all outpatient clinics and Urgent Care sites in Monroe County are open. Nearly all elective surgical procedures scheduled for today are taking place, with schedule delays at most locations. About half of our lab patient service centers are open, with the rest expected to open later today, and our patient call centers are working at less than normal capacity.

We appreciate our patients’ understanding as we work to restore full operations as quickly as possible. We will post frequent updates on MyChart, UR Medicine social media accounts, and the Â鶹ÊÓƵNewsroom page during the day.

Update: 9:00 a.m. Friday

Â鶹ÊÓƵis responding to the global CrowdStrike software issue. Our electronic medical record system has not been affected, and safe patient care is ongoing. However, multiple computers that support clinical functions are down. A fix has been issued, and our IT team is working urgently to reinstate all impacted systems with a focus on maintaining patient care.

As of 9 a.m., emergency and inpatient care at Strong Memorial Hospital are continuing without interruption.  MyChart is also available for patient communications.  We are working to ensure that elective procedures and outpatient appointments also take place as scheduled.  However, there will be delays in the opening of many Urgent Care Centers, lab draw stations, ambulatory practices, and patient call centers. We appreciate our patients’ understanding as we work to restore full operations as quickly as possible.

We will post frequent updates on MyChart, UR Medicine social media accounts, and the Â鶹ÊÓƵNewsroom page during the day.
