Human Subjects Recruitment Coordinator

Job Description:

The Human Subjects Recruitment Coordinator will work with the Sheftall Lab team located at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ, led by Dr. Arielle Sheftall.

The position will include outreach to individuals and community-serving organizations in Rochester and the surrounding area to recruit for multiple pediatric suicide prevention/mental health studies at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ. The work of The Human Subjects Recruitment Coordinator (HSRC II) will involve a great deal of independence and responsibility. The HSRC II will travel around Rochester and the surrounding communities to create collaborations and represent the Sheftall Lab as a whole. They will attend recruitment events, recruit study participants, and collaborate with community organizations to independently present updated information on youth mental health concerns and suicidal behavior. To this end, the HSRC II will require knowledge of the background, purpose, inclusion criteria, and design for all currently recruiting studies; independently create and maintain collaborative relationships with community organization; and responsibly maintain organization of all recruitment-related processes, materials, and presentations. Once fully onboarded, HSRC II will often work independently while conducting recruitment procedures, maintaining positive collaborations, communication, accountability with all team members, and educating the community on current research findings from our lab and beyond.

Responsibilities:

95 percent of the Human Subjects Recruitment Coordinator’s responsibilities will include:

• Leading human subject recruitment and screening activities and reviewing study site patient databases and office records for patients that meet the study protocol inclusion criteria
• Independently developing recruitment strategies to boost engagement with community organizations across the City of Rochester and the surrounding areas by traveling to, emailing, and calling community centers, schools, medical centers, and other public-facing organizations in the Rochester area to disseminate information on study goals, inclusion criteria, and promote the Sheftall Lab studies
• Boosting the Sheftall Lab’s visibility by tabling at public events; posting the Lab’s goals, current studies, and publications on social media outlets; and posting events led by Lab sponsors and affiliates
• Independently educating community collaborators and stakeholders via presentations and panel discussions about the state of affairs in the field of youth suicide and suicidal behaviors. Presentations will be given to teachers, school staff members and leadership, community organization staff members and leadership in the City of Rochester and the surrounding area. These presentations will be designed independently and reviewed by Dr. Sheftall
• Responsibly logging and tracking participant outreach status for all community organizations, health institutions, schools, and other public-facing organizations; Tracking and reporting recruitment goals on a regular basis to collaborators and Sheftall Lab members; Measuring and reporting the effectiveness of recruitment activities; Creating a newsletter for community collaborators to update on research progress.
• Conducting telephone interviews to screen, schedule, and reschedule potential study participants, and updating all participant logs as needed
• Retention of current research participants for longitudinal studies conducted by the Sheftall Lab

5 percent of the responsibilities of the Human Subjects Recruitment Coordinator position will include standard research procedures–conducted on an as-needed basis–such as, but not limited to:

• Post-appointment data entry, review, and data cleaning
• Being current on research training in ethics and other mandatory trainings as required by the University of Rochester
• Running research appointments on an as-needed basis
• Coding of observational data for analysis for all research studies conducted by the Sheftall Lab
• Literature reviews of topics related to the research conducted in the Sheftall Lab

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 3 years of experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Word processing and data analysis software required.
• Must have own form of personal transportation
• Flexibility to work evenings and on some weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

• One year of experience in marketing, recruitment, or related forward-facing, client-centered field
• Experience as Human Subject Research Coordinator I
• Professional Research Coordinator Certification (SoCRA or ACRP)
